I’ve tended to avoid the primary campaign as a divisive waste of resources, but I have to speak up, because some people have forgotten the above basic tenant of civilization.
Look at any poll that talks about which democratic candidate fares best when people must choose between him and Bush. Gallop did a recent one. This is what they say: Clark fares the best VS Bush, and faring the worst is….Kuchinch? No - People Powered doctor Howard Dean.
Kuchinch is more electable than Dean.
It’s ironic, since Dean is so conservative, and the Bu’ushist media claims he’s somehow “too” liberal - and yet Clark, the highly intelligent, ambitious liberal, is popular among wavering republicans.
Remember, wavering republicans count as two votes for us. First, they steal their vote from Bush, then they give it to us. Core voters only give us one vote. Also, even core republicans will donate less, volunteer less, and maybe even stay home on election day if the dem doesn’t rub them the wrong way.
But then, why is conservative Dean hated by conservatives? Remember, these are highly irrational people - that’s why they’re conservative, after all. (They don’t vote according to who matches them on the political spectrum - otherwise nobody other than Timothy McViegh would has supported Bush.) If someone “rubs them the wrong way” - and I have no friggin’ idea why this happens with Dean - they’ll jump back into the arms of the Bu’ushist machine.
I have nothing but good things to say about Dean - best of all is his campaign, which is the only one that acts like a MOVEMENT, and that respects its members as fellow compatriots and not as just a source of cash. I like his energized, positive, ambitious followers, buzzing with the sort of excitement this country hasn’t seen since the 1770’s. "Many of Dean's people are more in love with the campaign than they are with the candidate." I’m one of them.

SHANGHAI, China - The teenagers came willingly, hoping that jobs in a leather factory would help their impoverished families stay afloat, officials said. But when their bosses withheld their wages, they ended up surviving on once-daily helpings of noodles.
Authorities in southeastern China's Fujian province said Thursday a group of seven teens, some of them under 15, were returned to their homes in central China after appealing to a journalist for help.
The children, from a poor Yangtze Valley village in Hubei, arrived in July at the Yuanhong Leather Goods factory in Cangshan, near the east coast, accompanied by a fellow villager who worked at the factory, an official of the Cangshan Labor Supervision Team told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
Fleeing the impoverished conditions of home, they were joining the tens of millions of migrant laborers who left the countryside to power China's export sector.
China outlaws employment of workers under 16, and the government has stepped up enforcement of those laws in an attempt to blunt criticism following random discoveries of child labor abuses.
But factory managers say many teens lie about their ages.
The labor official, who only gave his surname, Fang, said he and another inspector intervened after being tipped off by the reporter, who works for the Communist Party newspaper People's Daily. [Even the commies have more dissent in their media!]
They found that four of the seven were 15 or younger, he said.
By the time they quit their jobs in late October, the boys had been paid only about $50 each. Unable to afford even two meals a day, they were living on noodles, according to a report Thursday in the eastern China edition of People's Daily.
Fang said the factory paid the wages due to the boys and bought them train tickets back to their home village. Production was suspended for two weeks pending payment of penalties for employing child laborers and other labor law violations, he said.
Cui Xueming, identified by the report as the factory's owner, was out of town and not available for comment. Fang refused to give a contact number for the factory.
He said the penalty for employing child labor was $600 per child for each month they were employed. [Sounds profitable, even if you DO get caught]
...Though the boys were due to leave Cangshan on Thursday afternoon, there was no guarantee they'd actually return home. Local officials in Hubei said they hadn't been told to expect them.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congress approved a bill to increase the executive minimum wage from $515.15 to $565.15 an hour, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) announced Monday. The move marks the first increase in the wage since 1997.
"This is good news for all Americans who work in the upper levels of commerce," DeLay said. "Almost a third of America's hard-working executives toil at corporations day after day, yet still live below the luxury line. It was about time we gave a boost to the American white-collar worker."
The wage was calculated to help executives meet the federal standard-of-easy-living mark of $1.1 million a year. DeLay said that, although his goal is to ultimately reach an executive minimum wage of $800 per hour, he was satisfied with what he characterized as a "stop-gap measure."
"Many of the thousands of Americans overseeing the nation's factories, restaurant chains, and retailers can't even afford a jet," DeLay said. "It's our long-term goal to ensure that no one who sees to it that others work hard for a living will have to go without the basic necessities of the good life."
Under the new law, the executive-minimum salary will increase to more than $1.175 million a year, plus mandatory overtime for executives who work more than seven minutes after 5 p.m., on holidays, outside of their home offices, or from a limousine or non-chartered private aircraft. Why that 47% doesn’t hate Bush yet
You’d think with approval ratings and poll the way they are, Bush would be doing a strategic retreat and trying to make himself look moderate. One would have thought the exact same thing before 9/11. Yes, it’s clear Karl Rove has another trick up his sleave, or maybe just the same one, knowing we’ll probably fall for it twice.
I’ve seen a lot of candidates and a lot of liberals talk about a lot of issues but one policy question nobody has bothered to answer is: are you for or against flying planes into buildings and burning people jumping out of collapsing skyscrapers?
This is the ONLY issue most people, especially swing-vote soccer-moms, are concerned with (and Karl Rove hasn‘t even set off any dirty nukes yet.) It’s also the issue Bush is most vulnerable on. And gets highest approval rating for.
Why?
If someone just killed your kids and you were hiring a bodyguard, which would you hire:
A) A lockstep-marching squad of ruthless, bloodthirsty psychos who hit below the belt
B) A cat-herd of unshaved pansies who squabble all the time and can only whine about how candidate A keeps hitting below the belt, then goes off on a tangent about spotted owls.
It’s time to sit up straight and talk more like candidate A.
We need to hammer endlessly: Bush presided over the WORST HOMELAND SECURITY FAILURE in US HISTORY. Following that, he put IDEOLOGY ABOVE SECURITY. Do you feel safer than you did 4 years ago? Failing that, at least pretend you give more of a shit about people jumping in flames from skyscrapers than about spotted owls. This is the only reason the entire republican party isn’t in jail yet - because they answered people’s fear and rage, while we were herding owls into focus groups.
We need a list of A) Bush policies and actions that caused 9-11
And B) Defense and security initiatives Bush has not enacted, or sabotaged, since 9-11.
(There are probably already lists out there, done by lone individuals and ignored.)
Then we choose one item from the list weekly and hammer, hammer, hammer. We hit the media. Why have you covered up this story? Why have you censored this story? Because of your anti-security, anti-American bias I’m going to cancel my subscription and boycott your major advertisers, such as (name brands and their products).
We need a website for each station and paper called [Paper] hates America.com about the security stories they have not covered, and then make stickers with the url, and then stick them on their newspaper boxes, their headquarters, and everywhere, picket the building with a sign with that URL on it, until they cover those stories. Same with their main advertisers.
We can threaten stockholder action - this is what Greenpeace does, they buy a load of stock and then put on a presentation at the stockholder’s meeting. What will your investors think of your anti-security, anti-American bias? All their stockholder’s money can’t protect them from planes crashing into their buildings!

Open letter to the DNC
Hello DNC, I’m picketing your Blog until you stand up and give us some leadership. I’m sick of the assumption that as an activist my job is to sit here and morbidly watch civilization collapse. I don’t want to fiddle while America burns!
The Democratic party used to be the party of the working/middle class, but sometime in the late 60’s the decition was made to become a squabbling coalition of committees instead. Just listen to any “angry white men” radio show - they’re angry because they were kicked out of their own party! Apparently any populist appeal or caring about workers is now “class warfare”. Now republican billionaires put on hardhats, spout off about “elitist limosine liberals” and Democrats just nod along, because trying to get their own voters back is “class warfare”.
If the DNC wasn’t so castrated, the GOP would have never managed to get a never-had-a-job AWOL aristocrat like Bush into govenorship of Texas, let along dictator of the world. They couldn’t have held tax-cut-rallies with billionaires cross-dressing as construction workers. They wouldn’t have dared try.
Right now the Republican machine is hyping up a typical piece of doublespeak, “jobless recovery”. What a perfect way to attack the republicans view of a good economy - where profits and productivity rise, the rich get richer, and the unemployed are forgotten.
And how about security? Bush is putting elite cronies about security, but then, so are you, by not hammering to the public the tax-havens used by Al-Queda being kept open (at taxpayer’s expense) for the benefit of Enron. But then, I guess picking on Enron would be “class warfare”. So would picking on the billionaires of Al-Queda. People CARE about security, all the spotted owls, abortion clinics, and DLC mansions can’t help you much when you’re DEAD.

The Washington Monthly just had an article last month about Bush screwing over the police, but I guess the gated-community DLC doesn’t care about crime. Lots of wavering republicans do.
I’ve heard so much of “Karl Rove is a ruthless genius” that I used to believe it, but you know what? The truth is that he’s just doing what anyone who actually intended to win would do, and the truth is “The DNC are cowardly losers” who simply don’t want to win.
I’m also sick of the tunnel-vision with regards to Bush. Even if we actually get our act together and beat him, then what do we have? The exact same thing as Clinton - an isolated leader with no strategy, attacked by both sides, 8 years of politics only of interest to gays who want to join the military and people who own machineguns. Republicans Senetors, Congressmen, Governors, all the way down to dog-catchers will take credit for the economy, and suddenly stop when we once again, apathetic except when it comes to infighting surrender to another coup.
We don’t need to defeat Bush as an anomaly, we need to prove that he’s the obvious result of the real enemy, REPUBLICAN IDEAOLOGY. If I were to make a fictional character half as bad as Bush, people would say my caricature of the republicans is a bit over-the-top. This is the first time since Hitler that we’ve seen such an all-out, honest display of what conservatism is all about - and liberalism, Hitler’s political opponents didn’t show much organization or leadership either. They had nobody to blame but themselves.
And what about the media? Bush attacks the media all the time. They say there’s a “liberal bias” and since you seem to be happy with how the media is, how can anyone disagree?
I concer with whoever said some candidates need to concede. Think about it: 85% of us are working for a candidate that will lose. How good for morale is that? Besides, they’re wasting vital airtime and other resources that we have so little of to spare. Frankly, I’d like to see one big primary held today so we can stop being an aimless rabble tomorrow.
I’m feeling like so many must have felt at the end of the French revolution - enough squabbling and guillotining each other, just give us a Napoleon!
On the DNC response, paraphrased by Marion, of course we have to compete with both liberal and conservative states, but so do the republicans. The repig gulf between fundimentalist-totalitarians and capitalist-anarchists is far wider than the DLC vs populist fight, (which is basically over a few words of rhetoric) but they’ve found a way to keep their thumbs out of each other’s eyeballs.
They fight, of course, but they never air their dirty laundry in public, after all, why would an internal party struggle concern soldiers? Our job is to fight, not think about our loyalty - in any struggle, half of us will lose anyway, with resulting loss to morale.
I don’t want to throw the DLC overboard - we need both wings to fly - and they’ve done lots of work coming up with “ideologically androgynous” policies and rhetoric. However, if they want to muzzle other members of the party, if they want to ideologically castrate other democrats - that’s not acceptable. Populists have been overboard since before 1994, and our only successes in that time is that we have survived at all.
You’d think with approval ratings and poll the way they are, Bush would be doing a strategic retreat and trying to make himself look moderate. One would have thought the exact same thing before 9/11. Yes, it’s clear Karl Rove has another trick up his sleave, or maybe just the same one, knowing we’ll probably fall for it twice.
I’ve seen a lot of candidates and a lot of liberals talk about a lot of issues but one policy question nobody has bothered to answer is: are you for or against flying planes into buildings and burning people jumping out of collapsing skyscrapers?
This is the ONLY issue most people, especially swing-vote soccer-moms, are concerned with (and Karl Rove hasn‘t even set off any dirty nukes yet.) It’s also the issue Bush is most vulnerable on. And gets highest approval rating for.
Why?
If someone just killed your kids and you were hiring a bodyguard, which would you hire:
A) A lockstep-marching squad of ruthless, bloodthirsty psychos who hit below the belt
B) A cat-herd of unshaved pansies who squabble all the time and can only whine about how candidate A keeps hitting below the belt, then goes off on a tangent about spotted owls.
It’s time to sit up straight and talk more like candidate A.
We need to hammer endlessly: Bush presided over the WORST HOMELAND SECURITY FAILURE in US HISTORY. Following that, he put IDEOLOGY ABOVE SECURITY. Do you feel safer than you did 4 years ago? Failing that, at least pretend you give more of a shit about people jumping in flames from skyscrapers than about spotted owls. This is the only reason the entire republican party isn’t in jail yet - because they answered people’s fear and rage, while we were herding owls into focus groups.
We need a list of A) Bush policies and actions that caused 9-11
And B) Defense and security initiatives Bush has not enacted, or sabotaged, since 9-11.
(There are probably already lists out there, done by lone individuals and ignored.)
Then we choose one item from the list weekly and hammer, hammer, hammer. We hit the media. Why have you covered up this story? Why have you censored this story? Because of your anti-security, anti-American bias I’m going to cancel my subscription and boycott your major advertisers, such as (name brands and their products).
We need a website for each station and paper called [Paper] hates America.com about the security stories they have not covered, and then make stickers with the url, and then stick them on their newspaper boxes, their headquarters, and everywhere, picket the building with a sign with that URL on it, until they cover those stories. Same with their main advertisers.
We can threaten stockholder action - this is what Greenpeace does, they buy a load of stock and then put on a presentation at the stockholder’s meeting. What will your investors think of your anti-security, anti-American bias? All their stockholder’s money can’t protect them from planes crashing into their buildings!
By the way, every time I’ve been on IRC, there’s always someone watching Fox news or something insane. You guys could both collect your ulcers AND help out by searching the repig net for their activist tools, tactics and strategies. God knows they don’t get 49% of the people with superior policies.
Open letter to the DNC
Hello DNC, I’m picketing your Blog until you stand up and give us some leadership. I’m sick of the assumption that as an activist my job is to sit here and morbidly watch civilization collapse. I don’t want to fiddle while America burns!
The Democratic party used to be the party of the working/middle class, but sometime in the late 60’s the decition was made to become a squabbling coalition of committees instead. Just listen to any “angry white men” radio show - they’re angry because they were kicked out of their own party! Apparently any populist appeal or caring about workers is now “class warfare”. Now republican billionaires put on hardhats, spout off about “elitist limosine liberals” and Democrats just nod along, because trying to get their own voters back is “class warfare”.
If the DNC wasn’t so castrated, the GOP would have never managed to get a never-had-a-job AWOL aristocrat like Bush into govenorship of Texas, let along dictator of the world. They couldn’t have held tax-cut-rallies with billionaires cross-dressing as construction workers. They wouldn’t have dared try.
Right now the Republican machine is hyping up a typical piece of doublespeak, “jobless recovery”. What a perfect way to attack the republicans view of a good economy - where profits and productivity rise, the rich get richer, and the unemployed are forgotten.
And how about security? But that amendment — though it passed the Senate — won't become law. The White House insisted it be stripped out of the final law, and the Republican-controlled conference committee obediently killed it.

The information was supposedly created by Thompson's agency for use by Republican members of the committee who want to eliminate funding for what Waxman called "provocative" research.
In 2001, a report issued by Health and Human Services Inspector General Janet Rehnquist claimed federal AIDS-prevention money was paying for projects that "meet the legal definition of obscenity."
Saving lives is obscene? Why? Because, as you declared it verbotten to say, Republicans believe that AIDS sufferers "deserve" to die their slow, horrible deaths.

Normally, I think that liberals spend too much time getting stuff off their chest, and not enough doing the dishonest, sneaky work of propaganda and politics. Letting off steam is a very honest thing to do, which of
course is why it doesn't work so well in the dishonest world of politics. The genetically dishonest republicans never hold protests, or rant, and when they do, they're at least sneaky enough to use codewords, like "damn liberals" instead of "damn jews, blacks, hispanics, women, gays, and people who have to work for a living."
Well, here goes.
Newspaper headline: "thousands rally to defend Reagans". Wow I think, today is a really cold day, must have taken some effort to get those numbers out. But reading the rest of the article, it turns out that some riech-wing website has gotten 40,000 hits (just ONE of my websites has twice that many, and I have several, but you won't see me with a newspaper headline.)
The issue in question is the TV miniseries, The Reagans, which commits the unpardinable sin of having a character actually say what Reagan and fellow conservaitves believed - and still believe - that AIDS is god's punishment to gays. Just ask any republican who their favorite preacher is - either Pat Robertson or Jerry Faldwell, both of which blame 9/11 on gays!
If they were honest like us, they would rant in defence of Reagan's (and their) belief. But because they're lying, politiking scum, they instead want to steal words from their own saint's mouth, and rewrite their own history.
In short, they say the media is liberal because the media keeps speading what conservatives have to say!
Moving on to other article, an article in the MEDIA says that the MEDIA is liberal because, ah, it keeps printing the truth. "I can just imagine how today's media would cover D-day!" it says, predicting next year's slogan: "Vote republican - because the sea isn't red with blood yet!"
Now, while I'm sure what he means is that the only example of unbiased journalism is a newsreal filmed in hollywood with troops fireing blanks and waving flags around to the tune of "Let's slap the jap off the map", I happen to have read a lot of articles by Earnie Pyle, and others like him, who knew that the best way to show the heroism of our troops, and the need to stand by them, is to show the horrors they go through.
The republicans, of course, don't want to stand by troops that are going through any fighting, unless you mean National Guard barbrawls at texan airbases. They want war to look like something fun, something soldiers
